It’s Never Foolish to Allow “More Love”

Okay, so I was a giant dork or fool and flippin’ forgot to turn off my work alarm on my phone so it went off at the usual 5:15 a.m. on my “Saturday” morning (I work Tuesday through Saturday). Ugh. I tried to go back to sleep but to no avail. Darn it! Hate how the brain starts functioning and can’t seem to shut it off.

Well, anyway, so I’m up. The first thing that pops into my head is a song called “More Love” by Tim O’Brien. Right now with all the craziness and in light of the Boston Marathon bombings, it feels appropriate to post this. I know when tragedy hits and once the culprit(s) are found, the reaction is to hate and be angry. Anger is certainly justified, even hate is to a point. The problem is that hate and anger simply breeds more of it. Why do you suppose terrorists are so successful? In my mind they’re just glorified bullies. They want you to react, just like any bully does because then they win.

Okay so being the bigger person can suck. It’s true. It’s not easy and can at times feel like it’s not the right thing to do but the way I see it, it has to be better than responding with hate and anger. I don’t particularly care to give those people the satisfaction.

So here it is – “More Love.” I couldn’t find a version of it by Tim on YouTube that I wanted so it’s the Dixie Chicks, whom I adore. It’s a wonderful song that also talks about bridging the distances couples face as time marches on and we forget to have more love. I’m also including The Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love.” Another appropriate tune for the times. We need more, not less.

  1. totally agree with your thoughts… there are a couple great quotes that come to mind on this topic…
When you forgive you in no way change the past but you sure do change the future (Bernard melter)
Forgive others as quickly as you want God to forgive you 🙂
An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind (Gandhi)

    • thank you for dropping by! second – i love the gandhi quote. he was a wonderful man. i try and live by his “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” i have a post by similar name talking about it. i’ll probably do another this week as it’s national volunteer week. 🙂 wordpress is wonderful for finding like-minded folks. have a great day.

  2. Jen…..I’ve been so busy lately I haven’t given a ton of thought to the Boston thing but when I have I keep wondering, “What possessed the to dudes to do it??”….I heard one report that said the day after the bombing the 19 year old was at the gym and hanging out with friends as though it was any other day WTF! so bizarre dude

    • for me it really just goes back to i don’t get it but im glad because how someone has no conscience about that i don’t know. i don’t think we’re meant to understand it – frustrating but yeah.
